FATORES QUE INFLUENCIAM A DECISÃO FAMILIAR PARA DOAÇÃO DE ÓRGÃOS: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA

Abstract

The study addresses the challenges encountered in the organ donation process; the lack of knowledge of family members about brain death, which is the main criterion for organ procurement. The objective of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the decision to donate organs and the perception of family members about brain death in the context of donation. This is an integrative review. To conduct the research, articles from the following databases were used: Virtual Health Library (BVS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciElo), U.S. National Library of Medicine (PubMed) and Literature-American and Caribbean in Health Sciences (LILACS), with the descriptors for the search strategy in Portuguese and English: “Obtenção de instituições e tecidos” (Tissue and Organ Procurement), “Morte encéfálica” (Brain Death) and “Transplante” (Transplantation). In the results, the articles were separated by themes: (3%) Socioeconomic Factors; (46%) Socio-educational factors, (3%) Inability to deal with the decision in the face of grief; (21%) Insecurity with the institution/professionals and (27%) Inadequate interaction of the institution/professionals with family members. Therefore, socio-educational, socioeconomic factors and effective communication influence the family's decision about organ donation. The lack of understanding about brain death and poor interaction with professionals aggravate insecurity and directly impact indecision and refusal to donate.
