Abstract

The stock exchange in Brazil has experienced significant growth in the number of investors and the volume of investments currently being made. An important characteristic of this transformation is the increase in young investors under 35 years old and their lack of experience. The general objective of this study was to analyze the profile of investors, their lack of knowledge, and the difficulties in filing income tax returns. The data were analyzed using data analysis techniques. The research revealed a significant growth since 2018, highlighting the strong interest of young people in investing, who currently represent 50% of individual investors in the stock exchange. A notable increase in young women investing was also observed. In addition to the change in profile, an important behavioral shift was identified, especially among young people, due to their lack of knowledge about the subject. The study further revealed that these individuals are affected by emotional and cognitive factors related to investment, demonstrating a general lack of knowledge about the stock exchange and, more importantly, how to deal with recurring financial losses.
